Rich Murphy is more than an inventive poet. He is a phenomenal teacher, as well. I studied under Rich at Bradford College, where he schooled so many of us on the fundamentals of literary form. Then he encouraged us to develop our own works. Then he defended our successes, and then he gave us confidence to confront our weaknesses. Rich remains one of my biggest cheerleaders and smartest critics. I encourage you to work with him.

The course I took with Rich Murphy catapulted me from someone who likes to write to someone who knows she is a writer. The difference may sound superficial, but to the contrary it's precisely what I needed to clear space in my life for the craft that I love, and he has kept me accountable with willing mentorship ever since. Rich will push you beyond your first drafts, your neat conclusions, and your favorite clichés. And as with any great creative instruction, you will learn just as much about the art of living as the art of composing, which after all are not so very different.

I first met Rich Murphy at Bradford College while enrolled as an undergraduate in its Humanities (Creative Writing) program. It was through him that I developed an increasing appreciation for poetry, the use of language, and critical thinking.
When asked, Rich, as a mentor, takes the time to share a point of view, explain a concept, or offer specific and meaningful advice on a project. Our relationship continues to be educational while personally rewarding. His insights on life lessons and artistic endeavors are always most welcome.
